SHORT-BEAKED ECHIDNA  -  Tachyglossus aculeatus

Identification      Round body covered in sharp spines with fur between.

                           Powerful digging claws. Smooth tubular snout

Habitat              Grassy scrub and forested areas throughout Australia.

Females - egg laying mammals, with a shallow pouch and milk glands nourish the young.

Capture ants, termites and other small invertebrates with a long sticky tongue.
